2nd Day of Dream Riders: Market Outreach in Annandale, VA
Yesterday, I saw DC for the first time. It was definitely different from Los Angeles.
Early in the morning, at 10:30 AM, we did market outreach to register Korean Americans and AAPIs to vote and to ask them to sign a petition in support of immigration reform. Sae Hee, led a training session at NAKASEC’s new office in Annandale before we started. I started to get nervous. Speaking to strangers has never been easy for me. Thankfully, I had my fellow Dream Rider, Anna Chung, and together we started asking people to register to vote and to sign our petition for immigration reform.
In the afternoon, we had an awesome meeting with the Dream Policy Table in DC and met the National Immigration Law Center (NILC) staff. We talked about our road trip with them and NILC staff shared with us the latest update on immigration reform policy in Congress.
At the end of the day, we prepared for the following day’s press conference with the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC). I also got to know the other Dream Riders more and their motivation for joining the road trip.
I am looking forward, but also a little bit nervous for tomorrow, because I will be speaking in front of the media along with my fellow Dream Riders and also Congressmembers Judy Chu and Mike Honda from CAPAC. Through public speaking, and coming out to share my story, I look forward in meeting community members across America to work together to fix our immigration system.
